Here it is: courtesy of Trav, the definition of courage. A summation of the problem with the country as it stands. A summation of the problem with the sort of society that my dear, right-wing, totalitarian love would have the world in general become. If a society robs the people within it of the ability to make choices and to live their lives freely, then someone needs to speak out against those things that are wrong, especially if that's the governing body. Someone needs to start it all, needs to begin the chain of events which leads to people regaining a right to make a choice: "I may not agree with what he says but I will fight to the death his right to say it."
Okay, I'm functioning on 4 hours broken sleep and continuing on pure stress so you'll have to bear with me if this gets incoherent.
I'm sorry but laws that claim that speaking out against a corrupt government that fucks over the people they're supposed to protect is in someway wrong deserve to be broken, especially when they allow for the government to simply arrest an person and lock him or her up without trial and making it illegal for anyone related to that person to tell anyone what has happened to him or her. Fuck sedition: I want a world where people can choose for themselves, that isn't run by big business and those who have the money to buy themselves a choice, that actually cares about the people to whom and for whom it should be responsible, that actually takes that responsiblity seriously and makes an effort to act accordingly. And it's only a matter of time before it's decided that voting for a party other than the one in power is seditious because it is unspoken criticism of the current government. (Yes, I read 1984 at an impressionable age and took its message to heart.)
It just all makes me feel so helpless, so powerless. The world is in turmoil, everyone is in pain, everything is fucked up and there's nothing to be done except to take care of the people around you and hold the people you love close. So that's the it: the choice. If you aren't going to be caught up in the lies of the system, you either speak out and risk being Paul in a Roman prison for the rest of your life with your principles your only comfort, or you make what small difference where you are. Reach out to people and let them know that you care and that you want to make that difference for them.
Not advocating one over the other and neither is a Bad Choice. But if that's it... what hope is there for the world at large, when most people won't do either?

speaking as someone who has to deal with bush and probably gets a bit more news than she likes i will say this.
we have a interim election coming up where if all goes well republican's won't be the majority in every house of government. also, in order for bush to stay president they would have to repeal an amendment of the constitution which believe takes alot.
while there is media that is both for and against bush, media is not all that reliable here. you have to take it all with a grain of salt but for now almost all of it is tainted with political beliefs. olberman is the better of the pack but that just how it is now.
people are speaking out and there has been progress in the gutanmo bay stuff, which actually was toward non-citzens and not american citzens, not that it makes it better but that's how he got away with it for so long. they didn't have the protection of the contstitution.
and lastly, it true that everyone needs to speak out against what is wrong in the world/in their country. so my question to you is what you speaking against in your country?
