An animated short film by Joy and Noelle Vaccese, called 'The Scritch-Scratch of Busy Little Hands', and a bizarre thing indeed. Somewhere between a coming-of-age tale and... well, if Tim Burton made horror films...?
Apparently, it took about a year to make: 500 individual hand-drawn and hand-inked pictures, each scanned into a computer and coloured in Photoshop.
For the first eight months, they actually worked in a completely different style, but then started anew taking inspiration from their favourite animators, including Plympton, Don Hertzfeldt, Patrick Smith, Jamie Hewlett, and Ralph Steadman. "What all these filmmakers and illustrators have in common is that their work can be very dark, raw and funny," the pair told TDR. "They are sometimes distorted and strange, but beautiful at the same time."It would have to be a labour of love, all of that work going into something that is eerie and creepy and strangely beautiful.
